Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is a short-term psychological treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that is recognised by NICE. NET sits within the broader modality of Trauma -Focused CBT. However, NET relies on a narrative style of exposure to aid trauma processing, that may be more familiar to counselling approaches.
NET is a manualised therapy that is integrative in nature. The therapeutic aim of NET is to utilise creative methods to facilitate the development of the ‘story’ of traumatic experiences by developing a chronological, autobiographical account of each traumatic event.
